Evaluation of the Relative Distribution of X-ray Equivalent Dose in the Waiting Room of the Private Radiology Centers of Ahvaz in 2017

Background & objectives: Ionizing radiation is one of the harmful factors in the workplace, which can cause serious and irreversible damage.in some cases, these damages can be incurable to people who are exposed them in the workplace. Hence, the present study was administered to Measure the relative distribution equivalent dose of X-rays in waiting rooms for private radiology centers in Ahvaz in 2017.
Methods: In this descriptive-analytic study, 8 private clinics in Ahvaz were selected randomly. The X-ray equivalent received at the meeting room of the clerk and clients in the waiting room proportional to the room was measured by Model 15109 inspector. Finally, the data were analyzed in Excel software.
Results: The average dose in the position of secretary in office 1 (0.179) and in- office 4 in the position of the waiting room was the highest values. In the clinics of 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 the average dose respectively is 0.179, 0.159, 0.129, 0.95, 0.131, 0.134, and 0.139. There were no radiation guidelines available for pregnant women in any of them only 3 centers (3.5, 6) with a warning sign of a prohibition were equipped with a bulb above the entrance door of the radiographic room.
Conclusion: In this study, private centers with a dosage of more than 0.12 µS/ h can be supervised and inspected by health center experts, Periodic training sessions for all staff working in radiology centers, especially private radiology centers and restoration of the preservation and life span of the radiology department will reduce radiation to the limit.
